I’ve been at Wave6 since January 2013 and primary a Senior Business Analyst and occasionally a Project Manager. In addition to the (almost) 4 years I’ve been at Wave6, I have 5 years of Salesforce administrator experience at a large software firm and supported over 2000 Salesforce users worldwide.

I hold the following Salesforce certifications:

I have worked with many clients from automotive to pharmaceutical and the last few years have focused on and worked with many higher education clients and really enjoy being a Wave6 employee as I couldn’t ask for a better team.

I have a BA from Eastern Michigan University and currently live in Rochester Hills, Michigan with my husband of 16 years and my 2 children ages, 14 and 11. I stay busy running my son to and from hockey, baseball and football and my daughter from volleyball to synchronized skating. Between practices, games and competitions, we’re rarely home.

How to Set Up a Contact-Centric Salesforce Org.

Working in the Higher Ed space, or any B2C O2I*[1] organization, can present the Salesforce Administrator with a headache: how to manage the Account of the Contact record, when the Contact is as important, if not more important, than Account.

Sure, Accounts are important – we want to know about the schools we recruit students from, the companies where they end up working, the foundations who contribute to alumni relations and the partner organizations we work with.  But we don’t want the Account to dictate how we deal with the Contact. Salesforce, however, mandates that all Contacts are associated to an Account.

What are the traditional Salesforce configuration options for a Higher Ed?

  • Person Accounts: A ‘standard’ Salesforce function which rewrites the data model, turning the Account record into a ‘Contact’.
  • Administrative Accounts: Create an Account for every Contact record.
  • Household Accounts: Create an Account for the Contact, their spouse, parents, siblings, as required.
  • Bucket Accounts: Lump all the Contacts into a single account.
